Ottawa’s Genre Film Festival — Runs From October 1st to 5th
Announcing our Opening Night Film
We’re finally excited to announce our electrifying opening night film for our inaugural edition! After screening at Sundance, Rotterdam, SXSW, and TIFF, Genre Gems will open with the Ottawa premiere of Grace Glowicki’s Dead Lover, screening at the Mayfair Theatre on October 1.
“Glowicki’s film embodies the artistic mythos of our festival. We want a bold opener for this year’s edition, and we think that Dead Lover is the perfect pick for our opening night selection. Just like the doomed lovers in the film, we fell head-over-heels for Glowicki’s provocative twist on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.”
Submissions are still open for Genre Gems 2025
Our programming team is currently seeking singular genre films from around the globe. We’re looking for shorts and features for festival contention. More specifically, the team is looking for exciting new works that challenge our notions of genre cinema.
We’re considering every genre, so the possibilities are nearly endless. We accept sci-fi, horror, comedies, romances, coming-of-age stories, westerns, thrillers, fantasies, and other niche subgenres for screening consideration. Our submission form is free, so don’t wait!
If selected, artists will be compensated with a screening fee for their hard work!
